Pronghorn Sighting

Updated: Sep 17, 2024

On May 14th of this year, staff processed trail camera photos to find our first physical evidence of pronghorn antelope presence on the ranch. Cattle tenants and staff have witnessed pronghorns in the past, but photo evidence is always encouraging. Pronghorn antelope are very rare in this area. Although historically their range extended this far, encroachment of crop land and development has pushed most out to more wide-open expanses in New Mexico. However, the expansiveness of the ranch ecosystem that has been preserved provides a haven in the midst of endless croplands. The presence of pronghorn antelope is a beginning indicator that proper range management is successfully returning the ranch to it's historically functional prairie ecosystem.
